Ain't worth the price
If you want to cook 4 burgers you should be ok. If you want to cook 4 burgers and some veggies or potatoes, it won't work.
Here's why. 1st, the cooking surface is very small. 2nd, if you put to enough coals in there to cook for an extended period of time, it gets to hot. If you only put in as the instructions say, it's not enough heat or after your burgers cook, the coals won't stay hot. It could be that there isn't enough ventilation to keep the fire going.
Regardless, it's not enough grill for me. For cooking hot dogs or roasting marshmallows, your good. For steaks, fagetabotit!
Bottom line is that this small grill is not for beginners. And if you're going to use it, make sure to follow the instructions, then add 20% more coals on top.

Smokey Joe Smokes!
I bought my first Smokey Joe in 1992. I am finally replacing him... not because he wore out, but because I tore him apart to use the pieces for something very important. (It's a long story... Smokey Joe was all I had or I would have been outside all night in my car). Anyway, I am now replacing my first SJ with another. I'm quite certain he will be chillin' and grillin' with me for the rest of my life or until the freakish and misguided "man made" Global Warming Police start charging to use him like they do in a few other fanatical countries. This is an excellent charcoal grill...I will enjoy it as long as I can. 2008-05-11

Works like a charm!
I bought this smaller Smokey Joe to bar-b-que for one, sometimes two people. It works perfectly. Small enough to place on the picnic table. The construction is quite good and it was easy to assemble. Since there are no moving parts, there is little more to be concerned about. Good quality - fast Amazon shipping - low price. Can't ask for more than that. 2007-12-17

compact but sturdy
This Smokey Joe Silver grill replaced my old Smokey Joe regular grill (which was 10 years old when I got it and then lasted another ten years). The Smokey Joe Silver grill is made from heavier steel than the old one and feels more substantial. It's just small enough to rinse out in my kitchen sink but big enough to grill for 3 to 4 people on the deck. You'll get about 40 or so minutes of premium grill time after your 12 or 15 charcoal briquettes turn grey after lighting. Keep the grill kettle lid on to keep the heat working longer. Tip: While grilling, never lift the lid straight up, rather move it to the side before lifting so as not to draw ashes up directly into your food. 2007-10-09
