Weber 40020 Smokey Joe Gold Charcoal Grill

I prefer charcoal grill over gas. Weber 40020 Smokey Joe Gold Charcoal Grill is a great solution for infrequent grill users like me. Not much mess to deal with after use. I like its compact size and portability; yet it is quite sturdy with great looks. Well worth the money.

Love it!!!! It was a gift for my husband and he said it was the best gift he can remember.

I bought this grill to bring with us when we go camping. It fits perfect in the storage area of our 30' travel trailer. It took a little bit longer to get the coals going but that could have been because it was really windy. The whole chicken we slow cooked on the grill was perfect. I love the size, and I really like the fact that the lid gets locked down. I definitely recommend this grill to anyone that loves charcoal grilling on the go or away from home.

As a few others have noted, the vents on the smokey joe gold are located on the side. This doesn't allow enough air flow, to get high temps for searing steaks, etc. This is a solid and well built grill, but it is best suited for lower temp cooking, such as hot dogs, chicken, sausages. If you want a sear on your steak, forget it.
The smokey joe silver has vents on the bottom, and I think this would be a better bbq for searing steaks. However there is no lid holder on the silver.
I sold my smokey joe gold, and I got a charcoal-go-anywhere. Now with this I can get a solid sear on steaks. The coal is located a little too close to the grill, but other than that it's good. I use the raw cast iron grate off my weber silver 'A' and it almost fits perfectly on top. I also use lump mesquite charcoal, and with the cast iron - now we're talking a seared steak - just like the best steakhouse.

The weber 40020 smokey joe gold charcoal grill is light and easy to carry on trips, camping or even in your own backyard. I love it to be a single woman that loves to bbq, anytime. Easy clean-up too.
