Just What I needed
This product lived up to all my expectations. I bought the unit for use with my Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker (AKA WSM). My first use was a 14 hour Pork Butt Smoke. With very little time (2 min) reading the owners manual I was able to figure out how to use all features. I have a standard city lot (.3 Acres) and with the Smoker set up in the backyard (back of lot) I was able to receive all the way out to my mail box (in the front of lot). This however was with a couple dropped transmissions. The transmissions were very reliable inside my house through one outside wall, but had a few dropped transmissions when going through one outside wall and one inside wall. Even if dropping transmissions, the reciever always catches up. I've done 3 long cooks and am still on the original set of batteries. I would recommend this unit.

Great Innovation
I have used my thermometer 3 times now and I feel much more confident knowing how the smoker is doing! AND it makes for much less stress knowing this. The thermometer allows me to make corrections before any damage is done to the food. Since I live on the third floor, it saves a lot of steps having the temp info at your finger tips.
AM totally pleased to have this gadget in my arsenal!

Good concept but does not work
Tried it with a couple of pork butts this weekend. Was hoping not to go outside to check the temp of meat but be able to monitor temp from my living room. Sounded like a decent product and while the the transmitter would read the temp correctly, the receiver was intermittent at best. Only 25' to my Living Room. Any time I walked back to house it would lose the signal. Finally gave up.

Not sure what needs to be done to perfect this model. I like the idea, but the implementation is not there.

I'm thinking a 2 probe digital thermometer with a pair of binoculars will be good.

accurate on temp frustrating to use
I use this thermometer quite frequently for both the BBQ and smoker, and as far as temp reading go it mine shows a 2-3 degree separation between the probes in my kitchen before it touches the meat or grill. Now that should not happen. I also miss the the meat temperature guide on the lower priced versions, this made it easier to see that you hit your temp. So I am chucking this and ordered the lower cost version the Maverick Remote-Check ET-7 Wireless Thermometer with 2 Probes. Easier to use and cost's less.

Monitor
This is a nice product and is invaluable for serious smokers.

I agree with a previous reviewer about some of the design flaws, particularly with the accessibility of the on/off switch on the transmitter portion and the clumsy mode for changing temperatures. The whole control interface is not terribly user friendly. Be sure and keep the instructions in a safe place because you will need them.

It does seem to be extremely accurate, both in monitoring food temperature and the temperature in the cooking unit.

So far, the range on the unit has been very good. I have not noticed a problem with range being terribly restricted by walls, etc.

All in all, it seems to be a good value. Time will tell.
